Vier projecten geselecteerd voor Thuthuka

In de Thuthuka-regeling zijn vier nieuwe projecten geselecteerd voor een ontwikkelingsbijdrage van € 40.000,-. Het gaat om 2 majoritaire Nederlandse en 2 majoritaire Zuid-Afrikaanse producties. Op IFFR ontmoetten de makers van de projecten elkaar.

Thuthuka richt zich specifiek op de samenwerking tussen Nederlandse en Zuid-Afrikaanse makers. De volgende vier projecten zijn geselecteerd:

To Bring Back the Heart

Scenario: Walter Stokman
Productie: Annalet Steenkamp (SA), Richard Valk (NL)

Logline: A documentary on the memoirs of South African writer Annemarie van Niekerk. A personal journey that gives rise to associations and reflections on the country's history of violence and love, innocence and guilt, revenge and forgiveness.

Street Surfer

Scenario: Tristram Atkins & Bauke Brouwer
Productie: Rinkel Film (NL), Khosie Dali (SA)

Logline: In the week of the first democratic elections in April 1994, thirteen-year-old street child Ashwin, on a final strike with the authorities, befriends the lonesome sheltered Dutch boy of his host family, as they adventure on a trip to Sea Point, Cape Town. The week leaves an indelible mark on their lives.

Rosaline's Lovers

Scenario: Richard de Nooy

Logline: During a slave rebellion in Mauritius, Rosaline escapes from her brutal master together with her young son and must decide whether she is finally ready to sacrifice love for freedom.

Pale Faces

Scenario: Chantel Clark
Productie: BALDR Film (NL), Urucu Media (SA)

Logline: Abiona, the brilliant daughter of an exiled Imam, makes a pact with a Dutch Officer. In exchange for help freeing her imprisoned father, she feeds him stories that could hold the cure to the blood-drinking curse consuming him.
