Dutch minority co-productions that have received a script development grant from the Hubert Bals Fund (HBF) are eligible for a production grant through this scheme.

The Hubert Bals Fund (HBF) and the Netherlands Film Fund (NFF) have jointly developed a scheme through which minority co-productions that previously received HBF support for script and project development can apply to the NFF for a production grant. This scheme encourages Dutch producers to engage in international co-productions.

Eligible projects are those that have previously received HBF funding for script and project development and are now seeking financing for production. The project must have a Dutch producer who submits the application.

A maximum of four minority co-productions are eligible for a realisation contribution each year.

You can find the projects that may be eligible for this scheme in the NFF + HBF Guide.

The NFF–HBF scheme is intended for Dutch co-producers who wish to work on innovative projects from countries with limited or restrictive film infrastructure and who have previously received HBF support for script and project development.

Applications for production support can be submitted on application dates by a production company (a legal entity, not a one-man business or general partnership) that has been based based in the Kingdom of the Netherlands, a member state of the EU or the EEA or Switzerland for at least two years and that produces and exploits films and other audiovisual productions on a continuous basis.

The production company will be represented by the Dutch minority co-producer (click here). This producer will have had prime responsibility as a majority producer for the realisation of a minimum of one feature film with a cinema release in the Netherlands.

  • Up to € 75,000

Applications for this scheme must meet the following criteria:

  • The application is submitted by the Dutch co-producer.

  • Your film project has previously received development funding from the Hubert Bals Fund.

  • The grant from the NFF and HBF is a maximum of €75,000.

  • The total production budget of your film does not exceed €1,200,000.

  • Overhead and producer fees together may not exceed 10% of the grant.

  • Upon selection, 50% of the awarded grant must be spent in the Netherlands (crew, cast, etc.).

  • The production must have a release in the Netherlands, either via theatrical release, non-theatrical release, or both.

  • Financing for the film production must be fully and unconditionally secured from third parties within 18 months of the grant decision.

  • The applicant is entitled to a pro-rata share of the film’s worldwide revenues.

Applications for this scheme can be submitted on the day of the deadline before 17:00 CET.
