Film Facts & Figures of the Netherlands 2025: Growth in the film sector brings both success and challenges
The latest Film Facts & Figures about 2024 show that the Dutch film and audiovisual industry experienced growth as well as bottlenecks. The total turnover in the film and audiovisual sector rose to over 1.7 billion euros, and more films than ever before were released in Dutch cinemas. The downside of the large film offering is fierce competition for both screening opportunities and audiences. It is more difficult than ever for individual films to stand out and attract a (cinema) audience. Although cinema turnover fell slightly, the Dutch sector showed higher turnover due to the growth of Video on Demand. At international festivals, no fewer than 99 awards went to Dutch films this year, including a growing number of VR/immersive productions.
