The Netherlands Film Production Incentive contributes to € 375 million in production spend
During this period, financial contributions totalling €82.9 million were made to 318 productions, as a result of which more than €374.9 million was spent in the Dutch film industry. This means that each euro granted, on average generated €4.52 in production spend in the Netherlands. 192 of the 318 productions were made as international co-productions, which account for €216.5 million of the total spending in the Netherlands (57.7%).
Film
Between July 2014 and December 2018 a total of 296 film projects received €70.0 million in the form of cash rebates under the Netherlands Film Production Incentive. As a result of the scheme there has been €320.7 million of production spend in the Netherlands through the film productions, €236.7 million of which is directly related to the scheme. Applicant producers on average spend €4.58 on production in the Netherlands for each euro granted. Significantly more is spent in the Dutch film industry following the introduction of the scheme, since more than 61% (in numbers) of the projects paid have a (highly) international setup and without the scheme it is not expected that the producers concerned would have produced in the Netherlands to this extent.
High-end tv series
A total of 22 productions received a financial contribution of €12.9 million. As a result of the scheme there has been €54.3 million of production spend in the Netherlands, €43.3 million of which is directly related to the incentive scheme. For each euro granted applicant producers on average spend €4.22 on production in the Netherlands. More than half of all the TV series (12 productions) have come about as international co-productions with countries including Belgium, Germany, the United Kingdom, South Africa, Norway and the United States.
