Support for two Thuthuka projects

Support for two Thuthuka projects

Thuthuka is an initiative of the National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF) and the Netherlands Film Fund (NFF) to promote collaboration between South Africa and the Netherlands. The Thuthuka programme supports projects that are potentially of high cinematographic quality and of interest to (inter)national cinema audiences and film festivals.

A total of 4 projects will be supported each year: 2 Dutch majority and 2 South African majority films. The National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF) and the Netherlands Film Fund make it possible to apply for a contribution to the writing of an original scenario for a feature film, long documentary or animated film that is realised in co-production.

The following South African films have been selected:

Show Up

Script: Reinier Smit
Producers: Spier Films and Dutch Mountain Film
Logline: Queens of their own South African desert, a queer performance ensemble go on a magical roadtrip to help shine a light on the extreme violence suffered by our LGBTI community.

Solar

Script: Jason Jacobs, Devon Delmar & Eva Bartels
Producers: Kate Schalk & Interakt
Logline: When a geomagnetic storm cuts off the power and all communication systems worldwide, eight ordinary people on the tip of Africa are left in the dark about whether they will find the love, forgiveness and meaning they so desperately need.

The Dutch majority projects that were selected in the first round are Die wrede relaas van Vuilgat en Stilte by Aryan Kaganof and Brace Yourself by Thati Pele. The next Thuthuka deadline is on October 31, 2022.
