Dutch line-up at Hotdocs 2021

No less than five documentaries from the Netherlands have been selected for the Canadian International Documentary Festival Hotdocs. The festival takes place online from 29 April – 9 May 2021.

Heddy Honigmann’s No Hay Camino – There Is No Path*, will celebrate its world premiere in Artscapes, a section dedicated to creative minds, artistic pursuits and inventive filmmaking. The film is produced by Pieter van Huystee Film. Honigmann received many international awards, including the Hot Docs Outstanding Achievement Award.
In No Hay Camino, legendary director Heddy Honigmann will go on a real and spiritual journey. Faced with a terminal illness, she travels through Peru and Holland confronting a family history filled with pain and joy. Along the way she will reconnect with her earlier films such as Metal and Melancholy, O Amor Natural, Underground Orchestra and Crazy.

The Taste of Desire**, directed by Willemiek Kluijfhout, screens in the Special Presentations section and will also have its world premiere at Hotdocs. The film is produced by Halal and co-produced by Casette for Timescapes (BE). International sales are handled by Rise and Shine. Kluijfhout previously directed award winning Sergio Herman Fucking Perfect (2015, doc) and Mussels in Love (2012, doc), among others. The Taste of Desire is a documentary that examines the complexities of human desire symbolized by the oyster.

Dutch minority feature documentary All-In*, directed by Volkan Üce, will have its North American Premiere in the World Showcase section. The film is produced by Casette for Timescapes (BE) and co-produced by Halal (NL). International sales are handled by Cat & Docs. In All-In two shy young men start to work in an all-inclusive hotel. A new, absurd world opens up to them. Colourful bikinis, an abundance of food and the management’s demands ensure they will never be the same again.

Short documentary Girlsboysmix screens in the Shorts and the Persister Shorts -sections. The film is directed by Lara Aerts & Els van Driel and produced by Prospektor. Girlsboysmix asks the question why is it so important to be a boy or a girl?

Naya*, Sebastian Mulder’s first short documentary, will celebrate its international premiere at the festival. The film is produced by Boondocs and screens in two sections at Hotdocs: Shorts and World Showcase Shorts: Look Don't Touch. In Naya we follow the story of she-wolf Naya, who walked from East Germany to Belgium with a GPS collar.
