Dutch doc line-up at CPH:DOX 2021

CPH:DOX just announced its full festival programme. No less than four Dutch productions and co-productions will screen at the festival.

The Copenhagen International Documentary Film Festival takes place online 21 April - 12 May 2021. In addition, CPH:DOX presents a special film programme for the big screen when Danish movie theatres are expected to reopen on May 6.

No less than two Dutch docs will screen in the main competition and will compete for the DOX:AWARD: A Man and a Camera and *White Cube.

A Man and a Camera*, directed by Guido Hendrikx, will celebrate its world premiere at CPH:DOX. The film is produced by [boondocs] and sales are handled by Square Eyes. Hendrikx’s feature debut Stranger in Paradise(2016) was the opening film of IDFA 2016. In A Man and a Camera ordinary people suddenly find themselves face-to-face with a mysterious, silent camera operator.

Renzo Martens’ White Cube will have its international premiere at the festival. The film is produced by Pieter van Huystee Film, co-produced by Inti Films (Belgium) and festivals are handled by Films Transit. This documentary sees Martens continue on from Enjoy Poverty (2008), in which he encouraged impoverished African people to use photography to exploit their own suffering. On that occasion however, the local population earned nothing from their efforts. This new film documents his attempt to reverse the flow of wealth and use the privileges associated with the art world to bring about real change.

Furthermore, Dutch minority feature documentary All-In, directed by Volkan Üce, will world premiere in the NEXT:WAVE competition. The film is produced by Casette for Timescapes (BE) and co-produced by Halal (NL). International sales are handled by Cat & Docs. In All-In two shy young men start to work in an all-inclusive hotel. A new, absurd world opens up to them. Colourful bikinis, an abundance of food and the management’s demands ensure they will never be the same again.

Lastly, Silence of the Tides* screens in the CPH:DOX Highlights section. The film is directed by Pieter-Rim de Kroon and produced by Windmill Film. International sales are handled by Doc & Film. Silence of the Tides is a film that inhales and exhales along with the tides of the Wadden Sea as it explores the fragile relationship between man and nature.
