Four minority Dutch co-productions backed by Netherlands Film Fund

The Netherlands Film Fund is supporting four minority Dutch coproductions through its selective funding scheme, two animated feature films: Nayola and Blind Willow, Sleeping Woman and two feature films: The Consequences and The Users.

In Blind Willow, Sleeping Woman a lost cat, a giant talkative frog and a tsunami help a bank employee without ambition, his frustrated wife and a schizophrenic accountant to save Tokyo from an earthquake and find a meaning to their lives. The film is a coproduction between France, Canada and The Netherlands, the debut film of Pierre Foldes and based on the novel by Haruki Murakami.

Nayola is a coproduction between Portugal, Belgium, France and the Netherlands. It tells the story of three generations of women stricken by war in Angola: Lelena (the grandmother), Nayola (the daughter) and Luana (granddaughter). Two narrative times that come together to reveal an undying love. In the past, Nayola sets off in search of her husband, missing in combat, and finds herself on an endless, devastating and mysterious trail. In the present, Lelena and Luana endure a double threat, a masked intruder breaks into their house and the police come to arrest Luana for political agitation.

In The Consequences Fabiola doesn't like the way her father César looks at her 14-year-old daughter. She has neither evidence nor certainty, but she has a gut feeling that there is something obscure in their relationship. During a trip to a small island, Fabiola becomes a spy in her own household. She struggles between the terror of what she might find and her need for answers.How far can she delve into someone else's privacy? How far can lies go in order to protect our loved ones?

The Users tells the story of Robert, Dragana and Maria. Abandoned by everyone, with no life perspective and condemned to a life time of hiding from society because of their defects, in surroundings with strict rules of conduct and survival, the emotions of three teenagers linger on a thin line between eros and thanatos, threatening to, at any moment, end in tragedy.
