Minority co-production support

Production support minority Dutch co-productions for feature length (animation) film and documentary, short animation and cinematic experiment (a.o. immersive and interactive productions).

The Netherlands Film Fund supports co-productions with a strong artistic view, an international festival and distribution appeal and a substantial creative and technical contribution from the Netherlands. European-based production companies and co-productions with countries with a co-production agreement with the Netherlands will be given priority.

In addition projects from directors with a proven international track record and/or whose films have been released in multiple countries and the Netherlands will be given priority; as well as projects with a demonstrable/good chance of reciprocity.

Who can apply

Applications for production support can be submitted by a Dutch producer (click here), who has produced at least one theatrically released feature length (animation) film or documentary in the Netherlands. 

In the case of applications for short animation, the Dutch producer has produced at least one independently released animation production in the Netherlands. If applying for cinematic experiment, the Dutch producer has produced at least two independently released cinematic experiment amongst which immersive and interactive productions in the Netherlands. 

Amount

  • Maximum contribution 200,000 euro for a feature film or feature length animated film
  • Maximum contribution 50,000 euro for a documentary
  • Maximum contribution 50,000 euro for a short animation or cinematic experiment/immersive & interactive productions

Primary conditions

  • The project must have substantial financial support already in place from the country of origin of the main producer, amounting to at least 50% of its own share and containing at least a production grant from a regional/national Film Fund
  • A deal memo from a Dutch film distributor for the theatrical release of the film in the Netherlands is required (except for short animation and cinematic experiment)
  • The total Dutch share of the project needs to be at least 10% of the production costs, including any Dutch share from Eurimages

  • Creative co-productions with a strong artistic and international appeal
  • A good chance of reciprocity enhances the likelihood of funding for the project
  • Co-productions with European-based production companies and co-productions with countries that have a co-production agreement with the Netherlands
  • Co-productions from directors with a proven international track record
