3 Dutch shorts up for European Film Awards

The Dutch short film candidates are In Flow of Words, Marlon Brando* and Easter Eggs*. In Flow of Words by Eliane Esther Bots is the EFA candidate selected by Locarno Film Festival. The short documentary is produced by Near/by Film and sales are handled by Square Eyes. In Flow of Words follows the narratives of three interpreters of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia. They interpreted shocking testimonies from witnesses, victims and perpetrators, without ever allowing their own emotions, feelings and personal histories to be present. Contrary to their position at the tribunal, this film places their voices and experiences center stage.

Selected by Leuven International Short Film Festival is Vincent Tilanus' Marlon Brando produced by Room For Film. In the last weeks of being high school students, Cas and Naomi, both out of the closet, prefer to spend their days together. As "brother and sister" of other parents, they experience a security and love that they cannot find elsewhere. But when their future plans seem to drive them apart, their relationship will be put at risk and the affectionate Cas must dare to be alone. Sales are handled by Varicoloured.

Minority co-production Easter Eggs by Nicolas Keppens is the EFA candidate selected by Berlinale. The animated short is co-produced by Dutch Ka-Ching Cartoons and sales are handled by Miyu Distribution. In Easter Eggs, two teenagers are looking for something extraordinary in an ordinary village. They try to catch an exotic bird that escaped from a Chinese restaurant.

The short film selection and nomination procedure of the European Fim Awards is organized by the European Film Academy with a series of film festivals. At each of these festivals, an independent jury presents one of the European short films in competition with a candidacy in the short film category of the European Film Awards. Now that all short film candidates are announced the participating festivals will nominate five short films from this list. Afterwards, the more than 4,000 members of the European Film Academy – film professionals from all over Europe – will vote for the overall winner that will be presented at the 34th European Film Awards Ceremony in Berlin.
